During my year off waiting to transfer to UT, I worked with a comp-sci major at Carnegie Mellon to create a print- and web-based independent music magazine. We published 5 issues and maintained a website. I was the Lead Designer, an interviewer, photographer, and ran a staff of 12 people.

PROJECT DETAILS

Date: 2012-2013

Project Background: Independent project for fun, based off of my love for the music industry and artists.

Design: Editorial, photography

Role: Lead designer, 2nd photographer, interviewer

I created this magazine without ever taking a design course, (especially a visual design/type) outside of freshman design studios at CMU. It was a great starting point to my visual work and was extremely fun to create something like this that merged my love of music, photography, and design into one original project.

Impact

We got to photograph festivals, travel to Chicago, New York, and work with staff in Pittsburgh and others around the country. I learned more about the business and marketing sides of creating an editorial piece, project management, and time management to balance all the work I had with this while working a full-time job.
